Layna S. Cook is Of Counsel in the Firm's Baton Rouge office. She practices in the Health Law Group, representing clients in both regulatory and litigation matters. She routinely advises clients on state and federal regulations that affect health care entities and represents clients before a wide variety of regulatory and licensing agencies. Ms. Cook has extensive experience in health care related litigation including representing pharmaceutical manufacturers in the average wholesale price litigation.

She has litigated a variety of health care related matters in both state and federal courts, and has had extensive involvement in cases involving ERISA related controversies. Ms. Cook also has experience representing managed care entities in litigation matters including contract disputes, denial of benefits cases and enforcement of reimbursement and subrogation rights.

Ms. Cook routinely advises health care clients on state and federal regulations related to fraud and abuse, Medicaid and Medicare. She has extensive experience with state and federal privacy laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). She has helped clients develop policies and procedures for compliance with HIPAA and is a frequent speaker on the topic of privacy and medical records.

Ms. Cook assists insurers and health plans in developing policies and procedures that comply with federal legislation on health care reform. She is also a frequent speaker on the topic of health care reform as it relates to insurers and health plans.
