Prior to co-founding Capitol Partners, Derrell Cohoon had 35 years of professional experience in political and governmental strategies in Louisiana, where he worked as Louisiana Associated General Contractors’ CEO and chief lobbyist for the past 15 years. Cohoon attended Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas, then East Texas State University; he received his bachelor’s degree from LSU.
Cohoon served as strategist and staff coordinator for the campaign to increase funding for the state’s transportation infrastructure, “Driving Louisiana Forward,” a campaign that has raised, to date, an additional $339 million dollars dedicated to Louisiana’s roads and highways.
He has served on numerous boards and commissions under several governors. Cohoon served as chairman of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry’s Worker’s Compensation Task Force, Employer Relations Committee, and continues to serve on several LABI steering committees. He is also an appointee to the Louisiana Health Plan, the Louisiana Health Care Commission, and the Louisiana Infrastructure Investment for Economic Prosperity Commission.
Cohoon has served as chairman of the Baton Rouge Downtown Development District Commission as well as chairman of the Baton Rouge Arts & Entertainment District.
Cohoon is married to Cheryl McCormick, another political operative of Capitol Partners.
